As part of the “Job Fit” project, a successful program of two-month internships for young people with disabilities has been implemented. This program, which lasted from February to June, provided 22 interns with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in collaboration with 20 companies.
The “Internship Program for Young People with Disabilities” allowed young people not only to develop their skills and gain experience but also to show exceptional dedication and enthusiasm. The program successfully resulted in the employment of one intern at Medigroup, while the company Mona offered an extension of the internship for two months, and Belgrade Airport for six months.
The internships were carried out in various positions, with the most prevalent being in the HR sector, where seven interns completed their internships. Additionally, many internships were conducted in administrative positions, providing diverse experiences and developing a wide range of skills.
The program results are extremely positive, according to both employers and interns. Employers expressed satisfaction with the organization of the internship and cooperation with the interns, while the young people acquired new knowledge and enhanced their competencies, making them more competitive in the job market.
The business sector plays a vital role in promoting equality through the implementation of diversity and inclusion policies, ensuring equal employment opportunities, creating an accessible work environment, and engaging in corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The project “Job Fit: Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities” is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Youth with Disabilities Forum, together with Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, Caritas of Serbia, Smart Kolektiv and the Center for Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities.
