Five local self-governments (LSGs) – Vrnjačka Banja, Kragujevac, Novi Pazar, Petrovac na Mlavi, and Smederevska Palanka – have been selected to participate in the preparation of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAP) within the Green Kick project.
After evaluating applications received during the call opened from February 23rd to April 5th of this year, the Smart Kolekitv’s and NALED’s Commission selected these five LSGs to be key partners in creating a sustainable future and contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The selected LSGs will receive support for developing these strategic documents as technical assistance, including advisory services and engaging experts in document creation. During this process, activities will be organized for local government employees to build capacity, such as training sessions and workshops.
As part of the process, selected municipalities/cities will accede to the Covenant of Mayors – the world’s largest movement of cities and municipalities focused on local activities affecting climate and energy. By joining this covenant, LSG demonstrate their commitment to achieving EU climate and energy goals, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The “Green Kick” project is implemented by Smart Kolektiv in partnership with Center for Development and Support from Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and FORS Montenegro from Nikšić (Montenegro). This project is part of the European Climate Initiative (EUKI). EUKI is an instrument for financing projects of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). EUKI’s call for project idea selection was conducted by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The comprehensive objective of EUKI is to promote climate cooperation within the European Union (EU) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
